Tips on Buying Your First Guns

Paintball guns have evolved since the early models. These guns were originally developed to mark trees, fence boundaries, and cattle.

The first game played with these original paintball guns were in 1981, when a dozen friends played in a 100 acre field! The original paintball gun designed for human play was called the Splatmaster, and was patented in 1985. Special modifications included reducing the velocity of the paintball so that it wouldn't harm other players.

CO2 cartridges, the same system used by pellet guns, power most paintball guns. Paintball gun design has changed over the years, so that the guns are smaller, lighter, and more efficient. Some modern paintball guns are electro-pneumatic, and no longer use CO2, but instead use valve-controlled air pressure releases to fire the paintball.

Paintball gun manufacturers have tried to improve their products over the years, so that they have speedier operation, are much more accurate, and utilize air compression better. Paintball guns have also "downsized", becoming smaller, lighter, and sturdier. Some of today's paintball gun designs even feature semi-automatic fire, where paintballs are automatically fed into a hopper.

Some popular paintball gun manufacturers are Smart Parts, DYE, Armo Tech, Kingman, Raven, Tippmann, Bob Long, Worr Game Products, CCI, and National Paintball.

Some popular paintball gun models are the Nexion, Spyder, Evolution X, Impulse, Excellerator, Intimidator, GTF Fieldmaster, and WGP Outkast. Of course, many more models are available from all of these manufacturers.

There's no need to go overboard when buying your first paintball gun. When buying, take your time, and find a paintball gun within your price range and skill level that also meets your particular playing style and goals.
